About Nathan
Nathan Mintz learned at an early age that good character and tenacity can get you anywhere. The son of a commercial fisherman, Nathan spent a large part of his early life on the back deck of his father’s boat, learning the importance of hard work, self-reliance and personal responsibility. Nathan didn’t always have it easy: all too frequently, his father’s livelihood was threatened by increasing government reach and oversight- often for unfair or unjust reasons. This experience gave him a unique appreciation for the proper role of government in safeguarding freedom, property, and protecting the rights of its citizens to earn an honest living.
Nathan attended Stanford University, where he graduated with a Bachelors and a Masters Degree in Materials Science & Engineering, with an emphasis on nanotechnology. While at Stanford, he was the Stanford Daily Editorial Board and was a frequent contributor to both the Stanford Daily and the Stanford Review, the campus conservative newspaper. . He was vice president of the Stanford Israel Alliance and was affiliated with Chabad and the College Republicans.
After graduation, Nathan went to work for a major aerospace contractor in El Segundo, working his way up to a Senior Systems Engineer and small team lead on an advanced sensor development program. In his time in industry, he has demonstrated great skill, innovation and leadership, earning not just the respect of his colleagues but establishing himself as the go to guy for solving many tough problems. He has shown a real knack for innovation, with four patent applications pending on inventions he has conceived. Among his inventions is a device for detecting concealed passengers being smuggled through border crossings, which is being now being considered for implementation at the US-Mexico border.
While always a Patriot, Nathan saw no reason to get involved in politics until early 2009. Then, he was shocked into action by the perfect storm of massive corporate bailouts, out of control spending by government in response to the recession, and state government spiraling out of control. Like tens of millions of others, he was infuriated by what he saw as the irresponsible behavior of a few being paid for by everyone else, and by a government that had grown too much, too fast. In February 2009 he established the South Bay Tea Party, an organization which promotes honesty, openness, personal responsibility and limited government and strives to hold local elected officials accountable to these principles. As part of the Tea Party movement that swept the country last year, the South Bay Tea Party grew like wildfire and today totals over 1,500 members. They have become a noted and respected standard bearer for fiscal conservatism in the South Bay and the LA metro area at large, which includes over 40,000 members.
A lifelong California resident, Nathan lives in Redondo Beach with his wife, Judy and their dog Nopi.
