California’s newly created 66th Assembly District is in Los Angeles County. The district includes the cities of Gardena, West Carson, Rancho Palos Verdes and Palos Verdes Estates, Rolling Hills, Rolling Hills Estates, Manhattan Beach, Lomita, Hermosa Beach, Redondo Beach, Harbor City and the city of Torrance.
Current registration is:
38.4% Democrat
35.6% Republican
26% Independent and other party voters
Previous elections show Republicans could push the 66th Assembly District into their win column. In the 2010 Governor’s race, Meg Whitman carried the new district by 2 percentage points over Governor Jerry Brown.
Also, conservative Republican and Tea Party advocate Carly Fiorina won the district by 2 percentage points over liberal Senator Barbara Boxer.
Republicans and Democrats agree that the 66th Assembly District will be one of the most hotly contested races in California. Political pundits are calling it a “battleground” that could go either way.
Nathan Mintz is a perfect fit for the new 66th Assembly District.
Last year Nathan took political insiders by surprise when he ran in the heavily Democratic-favored 53rd Assembly District, nearly upsetting his Democratic rival. The liberal areas to the north included in the old 53rd Assembly District are now gone, leaving all the cities South of Los Angeles International Airport where Nathan ran the strongest and won in the 2010 Assembly race.
